Na wystawie prezentujemy prace malarskie Grażyny Smalej z dwóch ostatnich lat i z dwóch serii.

Wielkoformatowe płótna powstały pod wpływem podróży artystki do Portugalii i spotkania z Oceanem. Smalej od długiego czasu zajmuje się wodą, malując jeziora, morze i rzeki w rozmaitych kontekstach. Jest także członkinią kolektywu Siostry Rzeki, organizującego m.in. happeningi na rzecz ochrony rzek w Polsce. Tym razem dotarła do najpotężniejszej wody – do Atlantyku i to przepastne wrażenie zaowocowało impresjonistycznymi płótnami z lekko malowanymi widokami świetlistego oceanu.

Druga seria prac to energetyczne słońca malowane płynną akwarelą na bawełnianym papierze, w których duży nacisk położony jest na emanację koloru, ten szczególny rodzaj świecenia pigmentu wodnej farby, właściwy tylko tej technice. Minimalistyczny kształt koła artystka z rozmysłem pozostawia nieregularny w nawiązaniu do rzeczywistych wymiarów Słońca i jednocześnie do krawędzi widma, zmiennej poprzez nieustające wybuchy na powierzchni gwiazdy.

Praca „The Sun 19„, ecolina na papierze bawełnianym, 76 x 56 cm

Morze i Słońce to motywy, wyrażonej barwą na płótnie i na papierze, opowieści o szczęściu.

Nie można inaczej mówić o spotkaniu z oceanem, Wielką Wodą, nie można nie pomyśleć – szczęście. Jest szeroko, bardzo szeroko – zapamiętać. Pył kropel w powietrzu, życie – zapamiętać. Nieskończoność, huk – zapamiętać. Otwarcie, bezwonne powietrze, inaczej niż nad ukochanym Bałtykiem – zapamiętać. Odczucie skali, pokora i radość, kobalt – zapamiętać. Biała piana, szum (kosmiczny?) – zapamiętać. Delikatny ogrom Oceano, szmaragdowa zieleń – malować! Koniecznie! I Żółty Karzeł, najbliższa gwiazda – matka barw na Ziemi, kula ognia ogrzewającą i rozświetlająca świat, okrąg – bóstwo czczone od tysiącleci, koło mocy. Widzę teraz co dzień jak słońce wschodzi nad morzem, widzę je z okien mojego nowego domu, a kiedy padają deszcze łączą się te dwa żywioły na niebie wielobarwnym łukiem tęczy. I to jest szczęście. – komentuje Grażyna Smalej.

Grażyna Smalej urodziła się w 1976 roku na Lubelszczyźnie. Obecnie mieszka i tworzy w Sopocie. Jest absolwentką Wydziału Malarstwa Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie. Dyplom obroniła w 2001 roku. W latach 1998-2001 stypendystka Hansa Bernhardta (Niemcy). W 2001 roku otrzymała Grand Prix Ministra Kultury w Konkursie na Obraz dla Młodych Malarzy im. Mariana Michalika w Częstochowie. Jest wielokrotną finalistką Biennale Malarstwa Polskiego Bielska Jesień. Brała udział w wielu wystawach indywidualnych i grupowych w kraju i za granicą, m.in. w Saatchi Gallery w Londynie (Continental Shift, 2014), w Lambertville w Stanach Zjednoczonych (May Day, 2015) oraz w Getyndze w Niemczech (2011). Jej prace znajdują się w kolekcjach prywatnych i instytucjonalnych na całym świecie – w Europie, w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Australii, Chinach, Japonii i w wielu innych.

Wystawa „O szczęściu” zorganizowana jest w specjalnie przystosowanej do tego celu 150 metrowej przestrzeni ekspozycyjnej, pozwalającej widzom na swobodne obcowanie ze sztuką, siedem dni w tygodniu, nawet do późnych godzin nocnych. Siedziba naszej galerii zlokalizowana jest w Fabryce Norblina, tuż obok butikowego kina KinoGram, siedziby Gildii Reżyserów Polskich oraz baru, gdzie w każdy piątkowy i sobotni wieczór można posłuchać muzyki granej na żywo. W ten sposób w sercu dynamicznie rozwijającej się Woli tworzymy niepowtarzalną atmosferę, sprzyjającą kontemplacji sztuki. Zapraszamy serdecznie!
